Kamehameha Schools (KS) has one of the largest educational endowments in the world.  The role of the endowment is to support the mission and operating budget of the Schools in perpetuity through world class investment management.  The Financial Assets Division (FAD), which manages $8.4B of the endowment’s capital, is undergoing transformational change. Timothy Donohue recently joined KS as Chief Investment Officer (CIO) with  the  mandate to create the foundation for excellent long term investment returns on par with those of leading endowments.  FAD  believes   a  world  class Chief Operating Officer (COO) is critical to building the supporting capabilities required to deliver on that mandate.



Job Summary



Responsible for managing the non-investment functions of the organization in one or more of the following areas: finance, administration, investment operations and reporting.



Essential Responsibilities




  • Partner with the CIO to develop and execute a strategy for operational excellence and value add.

  • Build and develop a team of operations professionals.

  • Envision and lead various process improvement efforts.

  • Oversee and optimize processes for transaction processing, valuation and reporting.

  • Work with the Senior Director, Technology to identify and implement critical information technology.

  • Own relationships with third party providers.

  • Maintain an appropriate culture of compliance and controls.

  • Liaise with KS internal groups that interface with FAD (e.g., Controller, Treasury, Legal, Audit, Facilities).

  • Manage the administrative and office support functions.



Position Requirements



Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.




  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Finance.

  • Minimum 11 years of experience including at least 8 years of increasing responsibility in an investment operations role.

  • Broad experience in all investment operations functions.

  • Experience leading teams of operations and administrative personnel.

  • Senior level presence capable of interacting at the Board level.



Preferred Qualifications




  • Master's Degree, Certified Public Accountant designation, or other relevant post-degree qualification.



Physical and Mental Requirements




  • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.

  • Occasionally stand and walk, write by hand, and lift, carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.



Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)   




  • This position involves heavy traveling to various locations, including international travel to conduct business.

  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.

  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but may be conducted in evenings and weekends, as necessary.
